Management & Operations
The support, advocacy and leadership of the Hemophilia Alliance team is phenomenal. As a Hemophilia Alliance member, our Hemophilia Treatment Center Factor Program is able to purchase factor at a sub-340B price. Therefore, when factor is purchased through our HTC’s Factor Program, more funding goes toward supporting hemophilia comprehensive care and education at our treatment center. As a result, all hemophilia patients seen at our HTC receive a wide range of comprehensive services, at no additional charge, including: physical therapy exams, dental exams, and genetic services.
Cincinnati Children’s Hemophilia Treatment Center has also been the recipient of several Hemophilia Alliance grants which provided impactful patient and family educational experiences. These grants also assisted with updating patient resources and teaching materials. These resources have been shared with and utilized by HTC’s across the nation.

Continuation
As a social worker, I have found the Hemophilia Alliance meeting to be quite helpful to attend as I gain information about insurance coverage issues, advocacy needs and education surrounding 340B programs.
In addition, The Hemophilia Alliance’s resources and marketing tools are easy to use and contain relevant information about the importance of comprehensive care for hemophilia patients and how 340B program funding supports that care. Our HTC used these materials in meetings with insurance carriers and were able to effectively educate and persuade both companies to include our HTC in their provider and pharmacy networks.
The Hemophilia Alliance’s leadership support at our recent Family Advisory Board Meeting provided important and timely legislative and insurance updates that impact the hemophilia community. The Hemophilia Alliance’s knowledge and expertise concerning potential changes to 340B policy, healthcare reform, and insurance challenges and trends helped our parent advisors and HTC staff recognize the importance of staying engaged in advocacy and providing education about the benefits of the 340B program.

Alliance Group Purchasing
Remaining competitive in the specialty pharmacy space is a constant challenge. The Hemophilia Alliance’s Group Purchasing Office (GPO) and payer relations teams provide invaluable services to Hemophilia of Georgia. We are more successful negotiating with pharmaceutical companies at the local level because the Hemophilia Alliance has laid the foundation. Joe and his team understand our community, business, and needs. As a result, the dialogue at the local level mirrors the GPO message. We speak with one voice, a strong message, that has resulted in lower prices and an excellent relationship with our industry partners. The payer relations team has assisted us over the years to identify key decision makers at insurance companies. They have also helped us develop strategies for collecting on high-dollar claims when we have encountered roadblocks at the local level.
